Knoppix FAQ

Once David and I receive a few emails on knoppix@grelli.ca we'll put more questions and answers up, in the meantime, here is a short list of common issues I need to write up clear solutions too.

How do I change my BIOS to boot from CDROM? I'd like to figure out how to get screenshots of the BIOS before I go into detail on this.

How do I create a boot disk for Knoppix? short answer: look in the KNOPPIX folder of the CDROM and follow the instructions. There is also a .bat file that you can run that will do it automatically. Unfortunately the computer will think you are German.

When I hit F2 at the boot: prompt it lists a variety of options, how do I use them? Type them and hit enter.

How can I install linux on my machine since Knoppix is so amazing?
Well I wouldn't recommend Knoppix as a normal Linux install, Mandrake Linux, Red Hat, Xandros, and Lindows are all easy to use Linux distributions which come to mind. Lastly the Edmonton Linux User Group is currently hashing out potential details on having an 'InstallFest.' From what I gather, just bring your computer down and we'll install Linux. I'm going to try and help as much as possible in that venture.

Can I get a copy of your ENGL 101 presentation involving Knoppix?
I have uploaded the presentation to my schoolwork page. It consists of three parts; the main speech, several useful and convincing quotes, and the output of ps aux that was to be featured on an overhead. Saavy students will notice that the presentation is much more linear on paper.
